The mission of Every Bottom Covered is:
To ensure that families, no matter of the biological make-up have an adequate supply of diapers for their infants and toddlers;
To raise community awareness that “basic human needs” include diapers and baby related products and that these needs are not being met for children living in poverty;
To advocate for policy reform so that diapers and baby related products are included in the definition of and provision for the “basic human needs” of families.
In response to the lack of goverment funding for purchasing diapers and recognizing the subsequent stress placed on economically vulnerable families at critical times when creating budgets regarding public assistance, Every Bottom Covered (EBC) was created in April of 2016. Modeled on the successful WNY Food Bank, Every Bottom Covered collects diapers and cash donations for bulk purchases of diapers as well as other baby needs. The diapers are then distributed through an intake program as well as community events, pop up locations and existing local agencies including shelters, food pantries, daycare, and health facilities.
The success of Every Bottom Covered is dependent upon strong liaisons with community agencies as well as community involvement and participation that share a commitment to the mission of distributing diapers to families in need and the improvement of the quality of life for low-income families in Erie County, NY as well as surrounding counties.
